Chia Seeds Cultivation

Trialling drought-hardy chia as part of making agriculture food-secure and drought-proof.

Tiny seeds with a rich history: chia, from the Salvia hispanica plant, survives drought and grows in areas with very little water. Cultivating chia is one of Kadamba’s experiments to make agriculture food-secure and drought-proof.

Background

Chia needs water continuously for the first few days of growth and then perhaps once a week. The seeds are rich in antioxidants and quality protein, and may lower the rise in blood sugar after a carbohydrate-rich meal.
