Through collaboration with DCCD-Cochin, the National Horticulture Mission and Karnataka’s Horticulture Department, Kadamba promotes cashew cultivation on barren lands — generating income for marginal farmers and restoring degraded landscapes.

Background

Although cashew is familiar in Uttara Kannada, there remains significant potential for area expansion. To meet the growing demand of India’s cashew industry, Kadamba encourages farmers to use barren wasteland for cashew.

The initiative creates employment opportunities — especially for women — and increases green cover. India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of cashew in the world.
