Employment and income generation was the first major domain Kadamba identified, stepping into it in 2002. Micro finance and micro credit were then alien subjects in rural pockets; Kadamba reached the marginalised through these unconventional fiscal services.
Background
Setting up Self Help Groups was essential, and still a novel concept. Volunteers were guided by NABARD in setting up SHGs and micro-credit groups, and NABARD conducted the necessary trainings.
Kadamba received overwhelming support from nationalised banks, especially State Bank of India and Syndicate Bank.
After serving the rural population successfully for nearly a decade — and in line with its principle as a not-for-profit organisation not to engage in profit-making activities — Kadamba gradually withdrew from micro financing. In 2010 the micro-credit network was reassigned to The Shalmala Finance Limited.
