Kadamba promotes organic farming by encouraging natural inputs and reducing dependency on chemicals. Through innovative soil management — including patented microbial consortia — farmers achieve improved soil health, sustained productivity and access to premium organic markets.
Background
Kadamba has associated with farmers since its early days for the sheer joy and love of working with the farming community. Its service area is focused on Uttara Kannada — one of the world’s biodiversity hot-spot zones, located in the Western Ghats of India.
By adopting natural practices and organic farming, Kadamba set out to bring revolutionary change by educating farmers to use natural or organic substitutes instead of toxic chemicals — producing high-quality products that meet international organic standards under the watch of its experienced volunteer network.
Methodology
- A unique methodology (patented in the USA) for soil-health management using microbial consortia — not a foreign solution added to the soil, but a soil enricher that recreates its original natural strength and texture.
- Building on the region’s traditional knowledge: high-density multistoried cropping that makes the best use of light, space, soil and moisture.
- Judicious use of green manure, dry mulch and recycling of residues to enrich soil health organically.
- Addressing farmers’ concerns about yield and market reach with quality assurance and marketing assistance.
