Kadamba has established a structured Health Referral Service for economically disadvantaged patients in Uttara Kannada district. In partnership with K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) Hospital, the initiative facilitates access to advanced diagnostics, specialist consultations and affordable treatment.

Background

The vision of Kadamba Foundation was to assist and achieve public good in all sectors and segments of society. Accordingly, Kadamba set in motion a programme focused on public health in 2003, through an alliance with the renowned KSHEMA hospital of Mangaluru — the institution named after its founder, the late Justice K.S. Hegde, former Justice of the Supreme Court of India and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

Since its commencement, the Health Referral Service has been a very successful campaign, reaching the deserving populace with an appropriate and professional approach. Underprivileged patients in need of advanced healthcare and complex surgeries are regularly referred to KSHEMA Hospital.

Approach

  • Patients are identified through Kadamba’s village network and referred to KSHEMA for advanced care.
  • On average, a minimum of 3 to 4 patients per day avail advanced healthcare benefits at KSHEMA — a continuous, ongoing process.
  • Alongside the referral service, Kadamba works with IMA-Sirsi and SDM Dental College, Dharwad to conduct health camps in rural areas.
